Young Gotham Arts (YGA) was founded by Owen Campbell, LaG ’12 and Nia Ashley, LaG ’12. It is an arts collective dedicated to supporting and producing work by talented artists age 21 and under. YGA’s mission is to provide a space where young artists can obtain experience and bring exposure to other young of artists. In addition to the annual productions, it has a mentorship program that provides funding and guidance to young artists.

“Walking through the streets of Barcelona where I live and work, and of New York where I was born, I was attracted by their architectural details, those large or small ornaments that the passer-by frequently looks at but does not see. In these paintings the grey stone and cement of the architecture is transformed into strange and colorful apparitions that might inhabit our dreams. I invite the viewers to look at their surroundings with fresh eyes and search beyond the superficial decoration into the depth of another interior world.”

A group of visual artists and musicians from Music & Art Class of ’69 assembled in November of 2013 to put on an unprecedented group exhibition at a L.I.C. art gallery. ARTISTS EVOLVED, as the show was named, captured the attention of our local PBS station (Channel 13). A short film, which beautifully displays the exhibition and includes interviews with former M&A students, and a former M&A teacher will be aired on Channel 13 on June 28, 2015 at 7pm.
