Students for Justice
A Reclaim Our Vote Initiative

Students for Social Justice Internship

$3600 Paid Internships September 3-November 5, 2020 (20 hrs/week):

1996 LaGuardia alumnus Harris Doran is the Director of Development & Marketing/Film Team Leader for Students for Social Justice and shares this amazing opportunity!

Students for Justice is an internship program for current college students, including those taking gap years, and recent graduates. It was created to meet two urgent needs – the need to fight voter suppression and apathy, and students’ need for meaningful, safe internship opportunities.

Working remotely, Students for Justice interns will take on a variety of projects for Reclaim Our Vote*, including communications, outreach, and community organizing – all aimed at getting out the vote.

Most interns will focus on recruiting, training, and motivating volunteers to use postcards, phone calls, and texts to get out the vote among young people 18-25 and to contact some of the 16.5 million Americans who have been purged from the voter rolls to help them to re-establish their voter registration. States targeted include North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and Arizona. Reclaim our Vote has a stellar record – their outreach achieves a roughly 25% boost in voter registration.

The fall session runs from September 3-November 5, 2020 (nine weeks), although interns may be able to start later than September 3 if all spots aren’t already filled. Internship time commitments range from 8-20 hours/week. Every intern will receive a $3600 stipend.

There are three internship tracks:
Team Leader: Recruit and manage volunteers to participate in phone banking, texting, and postcard writing to get out the vote, while also engaging in those activities. Gain leadership and organizational skills and hands-on political experience. (Minimum of 8 hours/week)

Filmmaker: Develop PSAs to share on social media to get out the youth vote, while also
working to get out the vote through postcards, texts, and phone calls (20 hours/week time
commitment; must have film coursework and/or experience). 30 film interns will be selected.

Marketing Strategist: Design, implement, and evaluate marketing campaigns to encourage young people to vote, while also working to get out the vote through postcards, texts, and phone calls (20 hours/week time commitment).

In addition, all interns will:
– Help with the roll-out of a youth-oriented app called Motivote.
– Participate in educational programming, including a guest speaker series.
– Participate in weekly meetings for planning and supervision.

How to Apply:
Send an email explaining your situation and background, identifying which position you are most interested in, and specifying how many hours a week you are able to commit to the internship, along with your resume, to StudentsforJustice20@gmail.com. Specify film experience and coursework if applying to the film track. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. You must be enrolled in or on leave from college or a recent college graduate, and you must be 18 or older by September 3 to participate.
