Walter Mankoff (MA ’47) – Secretary (Acting)


Walter-MankoffWalter Mankoff (M&A ’47) was a music major, playing violin and viola. He did undergraduate and graduate work in economics and finance at CCNY and was on the staff of the International Ladies’ Garment Workers Union for 45 years, retiring in 1996. In his post as Associate Director of Research he provided the union with expertise in garment industry economics, collective bargaining, social insurance and foreign trade. He was a consultant to the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Bureau of the Census and served as co-chair of the Governor’s Advisory Council on Employment and Unemployment Insurance. He was a founding member of Alumni and Friends of LaGuardia High School and has been a member of the Board of Directors for over 30 years. For many years he also served as its Secretary.

Mr. Mankoff is very active in retirement. He serves as treasurer of his housing co-op in the Chelsea section of Manhattan, is a member of the Local Community Board and has served as its Chair and is a director of a number of non-profit corporations. He has been honored by election to the National Academy of Social Insurance in 1991 and in 2014 was named to the NY State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame.
