“Island Theatre Megi” at the Setouchi Triennale 2016 by Yoichiro Yoda, LaG ’90
March 20, 2016 @ 9:00 am - April 17, 2016 @ 4:30 pm
Yoichiro Yoda’s new installation is part of the 2016 Setouchi Trienale. “Island Theatre Megi,” on Megi Island in the Seto Inland Sea, transforms a disused storehouse into a theatre for paintings and moving images. The artist himself has painted the decorations on the box seats and throughout the seating area, displaying drawings and publicity photos of film stars in the lobby. The theatre is based on lost 42nd Street, Times Square theatres like the Liberty and the Harris. The artist has installed a balcony and 35 old theatre seats brought over from the Historic Hemet Theatre in Hemet California. The theatre will be screening Yoichiro Yoda’s documentary video, “Last Days of 42nd Street.”
